Peggy Sue’s in New Castle Ohio

Peggy Sue’s in New Castle Ohio

Yummy Pies!

My husband has a farm not very far from Peggy Sue’s Steak and Ribs Restaurant. I would venture to say that at least my hubby stops by Peggy Sue’s at least once each weekend. I don’t go to the farm as much as he does…but it is almost tradition to stop.

Peggy is almost always there…and will make you feel right at home. They have a chalk board with the daily specials and a magnetic board with all the pies they have that day. (My favorite is the fresh peach…but it isn’t around very long when it comes!)

Peggy Sue’s Steak and Ribs Restaurant is located at US Highway 36 in New Castle, OH. Don’t blink….there are no stop lights in New Castle…so look for Whimpy out front!

  • Mary Ann Masterson says:

We sampled one of Peggy Sue’s pies – blackberry – on a Kenyon student’s recommendation just this past weekend (August 1). Maybe we got a “lemon,” but it was a real disappointment. It was too sweet, thick to the point of gluey and lacked any real blackberry flavor. My long-time friend and I love fruit pies and like making them when peaches and berries are plentiful. We tried making excuses for the Peggy Sue pie we bought (maybe Ohioans like sweeter desserts than we’re used to) but there’s no way this pie rates any raves.

  • Really? That is too bad. I don’t get too many of the fruit pies myself…except for fresh peach…and I love that. But the cream pies that I usually get are really good. Thanks for letting me know your experience though. I appreciate honest feedback.

Food was very average at best. My husband and I did not
like their pies. We both had cream pie and it had some
kind of whipped topping versus meringue. Tasted like a
store bought pie. I would not go back.

  • Thanks for the input Sheila. Personally I like the whipped cream vs meringue myself, but I know many people don’t. We haven’t been back ourselves lately. Prices have gone up and food quality has gone down. :(

  • Rich says:

Used to stop here quite frequently for lunch or just pie and coffee. Haven’t been there for a couple of years but decided to take a winter drive today (from Cols) and try it out. Only three customers in the place – we ordered a hot roast beef sandwich and of course had to send it back for them to microwave – prices way up from the last time we were there – two half order sandwiches, two coffees, two slices of pie – over $26. The kicker was the grubby fat guy (really fat) sitting around the front dining room – he’s the cook – don’t even like to think about him touching my food. Waitress was pleasant and she got decent tip – disappointing visit, doubt we’ll ever go back.

  • I have to admit that we don’t go very often anymore ourselves. Yes.. prices have gone way up. We haven’t had any problems with the quality of the food when we have gone, but it’s more of stopping in for a piece of pie and coffee, instead of a meal. I think it’s become a kind of domino effect. Business started slowing down so prices started going up… so business went down more. I don’t know if she has had problems getting help etc.. Too bad.. it used to be really nice. We really like Spearmans in Millwood. Little hole in the wall (has gas station outside)… but always packed. Prices good.. and SO much food to pick from. Always a good meal there, if you can get in. lol
