Sitting Around A Campfire in Ohio

Sitting Around A Campfire in Ohio

Cool Weather – Camp Fires to the rescue!

campfire

When I think of fall… I think of sitting around a fire at our farm.  Just talking… enjoying the heat and enjoying the conversation.

I realize you can’t build a fire outside just anywhere. Within city limits there area all kinds of regulations. But if you have access to a camp site, friends with land or such, try to enjoy some time outside around a fire.

Then of course I think it is a requirement if you have a campfire that you also have to have hot dogs and marshmallows to roast right?

roasting hotdogsBe sure that if you have marshmallows to roast you also have some graham crackers and Hershey’s chocolate to make S’mores!

If you should need some basic easy instructions on how to build a fire – here are some easy steps.  Now I know that every expert fire builder (and if you can build a fire.. you are all experts … I know!) might have some other versions. But this is my blog… and my version. LOL

Step 1 – Don’t forget the matches!  (no.. I’m not giving you the rubbing flint version..although Dave did get a flint stone and taught the kids)

Gather small dry sticks.  For ease we usually use a small amount of newspaper for a starter. If you don’t have it… find some really small dry fire starter to use under the sticks.

I know… there are many of you laughing at me for explaining how to start a fire. But I bet there are at least a few of you reading this that didn’t know how.  Or had never tried it themselves.

Of course a campfire is not an Ohio thing…. but I live in Ohio and when it is cold…. you gotta have one!
