Looking for a little Secret cool Spot in Ohio?
We actually found this by accident last spring. The Honey Run Waterfall was actually just opened to the public in 2009. Knox county Park District purchased 2 acres that included the falls in 2007. They have now also purchased another 19 acres so that you can hike from the falls to the Kokosing River. It all opened in 2009.
It isn’t far from at little restaurant we like to eat at (that I will have to review soon) called Spearman’s in Howard, OH. Dave just decided to take a little drive and we found it.
Most of these pictures were from this summer, but the last few are from when I took my son there last weekend to take some senior pictures. I couldn’t get any real good ones of the falls last weekend because we got there a little too late in the afternoon and it was too dark.
It is just a really peaceful place, it is only a small road that leads down to it, so you don’t hear traffic or other noises… just the water coming over the falls, and the sound of outdoors! The kids love to climb on the rocks. They can go up and around on the hill to get to the top of the falls, so I wasn’t doing any panicking things..
In the parking lot there is a picnic table, so if you wanted to picnic you could sit there, or go sit down on some of the rocks to eat. I would think you could spend several hours visiting the area around the falls and eating a lunch and taking a hike.
The falls are about 25 feet high and then they lead down to a stream that can be explored too.
We haven’t hiked the trail to the Kokosing River yet, but that would be fun to do too.

I just saw this. We love going to Honey Run. My children love to go and cool off on hot summer days. It’s a great little place to play and explore.
That sounds like fun. We haven’t gone on a time that kids actually get wet. So do a lot of kids get their swim suits on or just go in shorts & t-shirts to get wet? We will have to plan for that on one of our summer trips.
Earlier this Fall I actually took photographs of a wedding held right in front of these falls. It was spectacular!
